New Bedford man killed in Hit and Run Accident

New Jersey (August 13, 2011)  According to the New Jersey State Police a accident near Exit 70A in North Jersey has resulted in a fatality.  The fatal accident occurred around 4:15 near the Route 80, closing the Northbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike / I-95. 

Mario R. Simas was traveling south on the New Jersey Turnpike when his vehicle was struck in the rear causing his vehicle to roll over the concrete divider.  The vehicle came to rest in the northbound lanes,  According to witnesses the striking vehicle did not stop.  Mario R. Simas, 46, was pronounced dead.

Based on eye witness accounts of the striking vehicle, Maryland State police have apprehended the suspects in Maryland. Christopher Parks, 19, the driver of the Ford Taurus, and his passenger Alejandro Rodriguez, both from Maryland were arrested.  They have been released pending further investigation.

The southbound lanes of I-95 / New Jersey turnpike are open.  The New Jersey State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Mario R Simas, leaves a wife, Tina (Franklin) Simas, and four children.
