Beltway jammed after tractor-trailer jackknifes

Maryland (August 14, 2011)  According to Maryland State Police, just before 9 a.m. a tractor-trailer jackknifed on the Outer Loop of the Beltway Sunday morning, briefly closing all lanes of travel.  The tractor-trailer jackknifed between Exit 33-Connecticut Ave and Exit 31-Georgia Ave, resulting in oil and gas to spilling onto the roadway.

Around 10 a.m. traffic was able to get by using the right two lanes.  The clean up of the oil and gas took several hours,  all lanes of the outer loop were cleared at 11:30 a.m.

Maryland State Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
