Car collides with Bus on I-95 in Newark

Delaware (October 24, 2012)  A woman was killed in an accident on Interstate 95 in Newark.  The crash occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of 1-95 near Exit 1- DE 896 to US 301 – Newark, Middletown-according to Delaware State Police.

Toni Marie Koetzle, 24, of Halethorpe, Md. was driving a Chevy Monte Carlo when for some unknown reason the vehicle swerved to the left, crossed all lanes of traffic, and struck a BoltBus in the right front area.  The impact of the crash caused the car to leave the interstate and flip over several times.

Koetzle  was pronounced dead at the scene.  She was not wearing a safety belt.

A male passenger in the Chevy Monte Carlo was transported by helicopter to Christiana Hospital.

Mamadou Badiane, the driver of the BoltBus was not injured.  Two passengers on the bus suffered minor injuries.

The accident is under investigation.
