Car Erupts Into Flames On Interstate 95

Connecticut (June 30, 2011) A car caught fire on I-95 south between Exit 18 and Exit 17 in Westport around 9:30 a.m. The driver was able to pull the vehicle onto the right shoulder and safely exit the vehicle. Westport firefighters were dispatched to extinguish the car, which was completely engulfed in flames. Firefighters closed off the left and center lanes causing traffic to back up. The scene was cleared by 10:30 but residual delays lasted for another half hour.
