Car fire on I-95

New York (July 28, 2011)  The driver of a flat-bed truck hauling three cars on I-95 north noticed a fire in one of the vehicles.  The driver pulled over between Exit 18B and Exit 19 in Harrison and off loaded the burning vehicle around 1:30 p.m. on the shoulder of Interstate 95.  The driver notified the fire department and pulled the flat bed truck away from the area.

A crowd of 20 or so onlookers gathered on the Nelson Avenue overpass as the vehicle burned, sending off thick black billowing smoke.  Two lanes of I-95 were shutdown while the Harrison Fire Department extinguished the flames.  Traffic backed up for over a mile on I-95, the two right lanes of I-95 were reopened around 2:30 p.m.

No one was injured and the vehicle was a total loss.  The Harrison Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
