Car Overturns, Killing Driver on the New Jersey Tunpike

New Jersey (January 1, 2012)  A driver was killed when his vehicle overturned on the New Jersey Turnpike in Edison.  The crash occurred at 6:20 a.m. in the southbound cars only lanes at mile marker 85.7 according to Sergeant Brian Polite of New Jersey State Police.

Akeem Coon, 22 from Martinsburg, W. Va., was traveling south on the NJTP when he attempted to change from the right lane to the left lane and lost control of his Pontiac G6.  The vehicle veered back across the southbound lanes and struck the right metal guardrail causing the vehicle to overturn.

Coon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities were force to close the outer left and center lanes for a brief period of time.

The New Jersey State Police are investigating the fatal crash.
