Deadly Car Crash on I-95 (Update)

Florida (September 8,2011) According to Florida Highway Patrol, a fatal accident occurred just before 6 a.m. on the southbound lanes of I-95 in Pompano Beach.

Mark Wysocky, a Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson, stated that a tractor-trailer traveling on I-95 north apparently lost a rear wheel.  The wheel hit a car in the I-95 southbound lane which caused a chain reaction.

A pick-up truck, which was behind the car that got hit by the tractor-trailer wheel, collided into the rear of a gray Mercury Grand Marquis. The Mercury Grand Marquis burst into flames, killing the driver.

Police stated that one other person sustained non-life threatening injuries.  At approximately 9:30 a.m. Interstate 95 southbound lanes were finally reopened.

The driver of a Mercury Grand Marquis that was killed in the crash has been identified as John Lee Wilcox.
