Driver burned in tire fire

Georgia (August 19, 2011)  According to the Georgia State Patrol a driver of a tractor-trailer was burned in a tire fire this morning on Interstate 95 around 7:30 at the Exit 38- Golden Isles Parkway interchange.

The driver, Jackie Nance, had pulled the semi onto the shoulder of the exit ramp when the tire exploded, burning Nance.  The explosion and fire covered the rear wheel well of the trailer with black soot.

Authorities closed the exit ramp for a medical helicopter to fly the burn victim to Hospital.  The ramp was reopened around 8:45 a.m.

Glynn County police are conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident.
