Fatal Accident in Maine

Maryland (October 20, 2011)  A woman was killed on I-95 after crashing into a tree on the median.  According to the Maine State Police the fatal accident occurred around 5:30 on Interstate 95 near Exit 244-Route 157.  The driver, Elizabeth Gould was traveling north on I-95 in a 2004 Ford Escape when her vehicle went off the roadway and slammed into a tree.

The violent impact caused the Escape to spin around and catch on fire.  Witnesses to the crash quickly stopped and were able to extinguish the fire.  Elizabeth Gould was rushed to Millinocket Regional Hospital where she died.

According to witnesses, the Gould never braked, and did not appear to lose control of the vehicle when she struck the tree at full speed.  Police believe Gould may have suffered some type of medical condition which led to the wreck.

The Maine State Police are investigating the cause of the fatal accident.
