Fatal Pedestrian Accident on I-95 in Fort Lauderdale

Florida (December 29, 2011)  A pedestrian was struck and killed trying to cross I-95 in Fort Lauderdale.  Anelus Arre, 62, was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of I-95 at 7:03 p.m. to assist a relative whose van had broken down just south of Exit 27-Broward Boulevard according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Arre had parked his vehicle on the right shoulder of I-95 north and crossed the northbound lanes.  The victim attempted to cross the busy southbound lanes of I-95 when he was fatally struck by a 2007 Ford Expedition, driven by Juan Carlos Fernandez.  FHP states the driver took evasive actions trying to avoid the collision.

Anelus Arre was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family members at the scene were distraught, Arre was meeting his cousin before leaving for a trip to Haiti on Friday.

Authorities closed two of the southbound lanes as they investigated the fatal accident scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
