Fatality on I-95 in Florida

Florida (August 20, 2012)  A man was killed in an accident on I-95 in Duval County.  The crash occurred shortly before 5:00 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near the Race Track Road overpass according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Alex Sweat was driving his 2003 Ford pick-up truck with a trailer attached in the center lane with his passenger George Thomas.  A 2004 Ford pick-truck driven by Bruce Allen, was travelling in the outside lane and veered into the center lane of the interstate hitting Alex Sweat’s trailer.

The impact of the crash caused Sweat’s pick-up truck to cross over the inside lane of the roadway, hit another pick-up truck, over turn and come to rest in the woodline.

George Thomas, a 71-year-old man from Folkston,GA, died at the scene of the accident.

Alex Sweat, a 70-year-old man from Hilliard was transported to Orange Park Medical Center with serious injuries.

Thomas and Sweat were wearing seat belts.

The accident is under investigation and charges are pending.
