Woman Killed in multi-vehicle Accident on I-95

Florida(February 19, 2012)  One person was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on I-95 north in Palm Beach County.  The deadly crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 between Exit 52-Atlantic Avenue and Exit 56-Woolbright Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. 

The chain reaction accident started when Dairon Perez, 19, driving a 1999 Isuzu truck lost control of his vehicle and struck the center concrete divider when his rear tire failed.  The vehicle came to rest up facing sideways in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95.  Sonia Marullanda, the driver of a 2002 Mitsubishi sedan changed lanes in an attempt to avoid striking the Isuzu and collided with the left side of a 2006 Dodge Charger in the middle lane.  The Mitsubishi was then struck by a 2002 Ford pickup truck, driven by John William Tiernan.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Sonia Marullanda, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene.   Two passengers in her car, Claudia Beatriz Segura Cadena, 48, and Hernan Jimenez, 50, were seriously injured and transported to Delray Community Hospital.

Merlin Moreno Silva, 20, a passenger in the Isuzu and Perez were seriously injured and transported Bethesda Memorial Hospital.  The driver of the Charger, Anderson Regis, 26, was also injured.

All northbound lanes were closed as Police investigated the scene and tended to the injured.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 95 were re-opened around 10:00 a.m. as the Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal accident.
