Multiple Vehicle Accident Slows Traffic on I-95

Florida (December 15, 2011)  A multiple vehicle accident injured two people on I-95 south in West Palm Beach. The accident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. near Exit 70.According to the Florida Highway Patrol the multiple vehicle crash was triggered when a unknown vehicle came to a near stop in the center lane of Interstate 95 forcing a tractor-trailer, driven by Dwayne Paddyfoot to rapidly slow down.  Ernest Gonzalez, driving a 2002 Ford Pickup truck and David Deese, driving a 1992 Honda sedan were traveling south behind the semi.  Gonzalez attempted to pass the tractor-trailer and lost control trying to avoid the stopped vehicle.  The Ford collided with the Honda and the tractor-trailer.  The driver of the unknown stopped vehicle left the scene.

Rescue workers had to extricate Deese from his heavily damaged vehicle.  Deese suffered serious injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center.  Gonzalez also was injured and taken to the hospital.  Paddyfoot was not injured in the wreck.

Traffic was jammed in the area for about an hour as several lanes were closed as crews completed the rescue operation and crash investigation.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
