One Dead and two seriously injured in Chesterfield

Virginia (August 28, 2011)  According to the Virginia State Police a woman was killed and two passengers were seriously injured after an accident on I-95 around 10:30 a.m.,  The driver, Nancy M. Shaffer, was driving a 1993 Honda north on Interstate 95 with her husband and stepson when she was cut off near Exit 58.

Police state that Shaffer was traveling north in the center lane, when, according to a witness, a Dodge Charger in the left lane suddenly cut in front of the Honda.  Shaffer lost control of her vehicle while trying to avoid a collision and went onto the left shoulder, striking the concrete divider.  The impact caused the vehicle to overturn, ejecting Shaffer.  Shaffer was not wearing a seat belt.

The Dodge Charger did not stop.

Nancy M. Shaffer, 23, was airlifted to Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

Her husband and stepson were seriously injured and taken to Commonwealth University Medical Center.
