One Dead, One in Critical Condition in rollover accident on I-495

Massachusetts (December 26, 2011)  One person is dead after two people were ejected in a rollover crash on I-495 in Mansfield.  The Massachusetts State Police report the accident happened at 6:30 a.m. on I-495 south near Exit 11-Route 140.

According to Sergeant Robert Galvin a 2003 Ford pick-up truck driven by 53 year-old Gary Ostrom was traveling north on I-495 when the vehicle skidded off the roadway.  The vehicle rolled over ejecting both occupants and striking a police cruiser before coming to rest in the median.

Authorities closed I-495 for a brief period of time to allow a medical helicopter to land.

Gary Ostrom was taken by ambulance to Sturdy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  His 19 year-old passenger, Joshua Ostrom were air lifted to Massachusetts General Hospitais in critical condition.

The left lane remains closed as police investigate the scene and crews work to clean up the wreckage.

The Massachusetts State Police are still investigating the fatal accident and trying to determine if black ice was a contributing factor.
