One Killed when Honda Rear-ends Tractor-trailer on I-95

North Carolina (September 16, 2011)  A second fatal accident occurred on I-95 north when a vehicle slammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer that was stopped in traffic for an earlier accident in Robeson County.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol a tractor trailer, driven by Marion Garbin, was stopped in traffic near mile marker 34 when a Honda Accord rear-ended the tractor trailer, killing the passenger in the Honda.

The driver of the Honda Accord, Richard Johnston, was traveling north on I-95 with his wife Elsa Johnston and apparently did not notice the traffic jam.  The Honda slammed into the rear of the tractor-trailer, causing the Honda to go underneath the trailer.

Elsa Johnston was killed in the violent collision, Richard Johnston sustained injuries and was transported to Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The second accident within miles of each other forced authorities to close I-95 completely for a period of time.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal accident.
