Pedestrian Fatality on I-95 South (Updated)

Florida (September 28, 2011)  A man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer around 2:56 p.m. on  I-95 south in Flagler County.  The fatal accident occurred between Exit 284-Route 100 and Exit 278-Old Dixie Highway on Interstate 95, where authorities say the man was standing in the right southbound lane when he was struck by the right front corner of the 18-wheeler.

The man was thrown off of the shoulder of the road and down a small embankment.  Rickey Clint Green was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the tractor-trailer, Wayne N. Peconi, tried to stop, but was unable to avoid the collision.

The Florida Highway Patrol is trying to determine why Green stepped in front of the tractor-trailer.

Both the right lane and shoulder of I-95 were closed as police investigated the scene.  Traffic was able to squeeze by in the two left lanes, traffic was building in the area.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the fatal accident.
