Pedestrian Struck and Killed trying to Cross I-395

Virginia (October 4, 2011)  According to the Virginia State Police a man was struck and killed when he attempted to cross I-395.  The fatal accident occurred around 4 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 395 near Exit 7-Glebe Road. 

Fekadu Ledi, 64, had crossed I-395 south, the HOV lanes and was attempting to cross the northbound lanes when he was struck in the far right lane by a sedan.  The driver of the striking vehicle stopped at the scene.

Fekadu Ledi of Arlington died at the scene.

Virginia State Police closed the right two lanes of I-395, causing major traffic congestion in the area, as the Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the scene.

Police are not sure why Ledi was attempting to cross I-395, a heavily traveled road.

No charges have been filed at this time.
