Philadelphia Highway Patrol Officer Killed by Alleged Drunk Driver

Pennsylvania (July 8, 2012)  An alleged drunk driver, traveling the wrong way on Interstate 95, killed a Philadelphia police officer early Sunday morning.  The crash occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 near exit 30 (Cottman Ave.) according to State Police.

philadelphia highway patrolThe officer, 48-year-old Brian Lorenzo, was a 23-year veteran of the force and a member of the elite Highway Patrol unit

Officer Lorenzo was riding his police motorcycle home after work. The officer was reportedly struck and killed by a man driving an Audi A6 the wrong direction on the northbound lanes.

The driver of the Audi, 48-year-old John Leck Jr., of Levittown, has been charged with vehicular homicide, drunk driving and other offenses.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Lorenzo family, his friends, and his brethren in Highway Patrol.

A viewing  for Officer Lorenzo  will be held at Givnish Funeral Home, located at 10975 Academy Road in Northeast Philadelphia, on Thursday evening.
