Scrape Vehicles Litter I-95 after Tractor-trailer Overturns

Maryland (September 1, 2011)  A tractor-trailer hauling scrape vehicles overturned on I-95 at Exit 43-Route 100 causing several vehicles to crash.  The accident occurred around 3 p.m. when the tractor-trailer driven by Jeffrey M. Simpson rolled over in the center two lanes causing the scrape vehicles to spill onto I-95 north.  Two accidents resulted from the debris landing on roadway.

Authorities closed the four northbound lanes of Interstate 95 for several hours as they worked to clean up the debris and upright the wreck.

The left lane was reopened around 5 p.m. but the three right lanes remained closed.  Traffic is backed up for miles in the northbound direction of I-95.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area for the next several hours.

Maryland State Police are investigating what caused the accident
