Shooting Suspect Crashes Into Police Cars on I-95

Pennsylvania (August 10, 2011)  A man led police on a wild chase through Philadelphia, culminating with his ramming several police cruisers on I-95 South, authorities say.  Police gave this account of events that unfolded about 3:40 a.m. when an officer heard two gunshots, then saw a man emerge from an alley. The officer gave chase.

The suspect fled in a silver 1998 Ford Windstar minivan through Center Center City, eventually driving onto I-95 south.  Police say the suspect intentionally rammed three police cruisers with the minivan as they gave chase on I-95 near the Walt Whitman Bridge.

Police say the suspect tossed the gun, then tried to flee on foot before being caught. No officers were injured.  The suspect received minor injuries as a result of the crashes, and was transported to Hahneman University Hospital.

The victim, a 41-year-old male, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was in stable condition at the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania. His identity was not available.

Police closed down two of the three southbound lanes as they investigated the scene, where police recovered a gun . All southbound lanes of I-95 were reopened at 6:a.m.
