Virginia (November 7, 2011) A tractor-trailer and four cars were involved in crash on I-95 north in Richmond. The accident occurred around 7:45 a.m. Between Exit 76 and Exit 78 causing a traffic nightmare for commuters.
All lanes of I-95 were closed for a brief period of time as rescue personnel responded to the scene.
Six people were injured and transported to VCU Medical Center.
Police were able to allow traffic to get by on the right shoulder but not before traffic had backed up for over four miles.
All lanes were re-opened just after 10 a.m.
The Virginia State police are investigating the accident.
Update: Police have charged Kevin Harper with following too closely in the five vehicle chain reaction accident. According to Police, Harper was driving a Ford F-350 when he rear-ended a Mercedez Benz that had slowed for traffic. The force of the impact caused the Mercedez Benz to cross into the center lane where it was struck by a Ford Focus.
A tractor-trailer then rear-ended a Chevrolet Equinox that slowed down because of the crash, the Equinox was pushed into the rear of the Ford Focus.
