SUV rollover accident in Savannah (Updated)

Georgia (August 15, 2011)  According to Georgia State Police a SUV rolled over in the southbound lanes of I-95 in Savannah around 2 p.m Monday causing traffic delays.

The accident occurred south of Exit 94 near mile marker 92.

Emergency crews, including two ambulances and the Southside Fire Department were called to the scene.

According to comments we received, six people were traveling in the SUV at the time of the accident. All six occupants survived the horrific crash.

A tire blowout caused the vehicle to lose control and overturn. The vehicle came to rest on its side facing oncoming traffic, resting against a metal guardrail.

Traffic was moving again by approximately 4 p.m. after emergency crews removed the vehicle and cleared the accident debris.

  1. We saw the aftermath of this wreck yesterday. We were in the northbound lanes, thankful not to have been traveling south. We hope the occupants lived through this, but from what we saw of the vehicle, that would be surprising.

    Just wanted to report that all SIX occupants survived and with “minor” injuries considering….thank God….a tire blowout can happen so suddenly, so PLEASE wear your seatbelts and have a sturdy vehicle with airbags….

    We are all so happy you and your family are okay Krystal! After seeing the photo you posted, if I had seen that on the side of the road I would have assumed the worst, or at least someone was severely injured. The fact that you all walked (or limped) away is a miracle.
