Tanker Trucker Overturns on I-95

Maine (October 7, 2011)  According to the Maine State Police a Tanker Trucker overturned on I-95 north closing one lane.  The crash occurred around 2 a.m. near Exit 112 in Augusta. 

The driver, Rudy Baldeo, was traveling north on Interstate 95 when the truck went off the right shoulder of the roadway.  The truck overturned onto its right side in a ditch causing the tanker to leak.  Police believe the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Rudy Baldeo was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The Tanker truck was hauling Nopcote, a non-hazardous liquid used in papermaking, to a paper mill in Jay.  The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was on the scene as crews worked to contain the spill and prevent any environmental damage.  The cleanup effort also required transferring the remaining liquid from the tanker before it could be up righted.

The clean up effort lasted late into Friday causing major traffic headaches on I-95 north.  All lanes were re-opened by Saturday,

The Maine State Police are investigating the cause of the accident.  No charges have been filed at this time.
