Tour bus crash in New York on I-95

New York (July 4, 2012)  A Tour bus accident occurred on Interstate 95 in Westchester County.  The crash happened shortly after 6:00 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-95 between exits 15 & 16, New Rochelle area, according to New York State Police.

The driver of the tour bus hit the Jersey wall which caused the bus to veer to the right crossing over three lanes and finally coming to rest after sliding over several hundred feet.  All 23 passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Sound Shore Medical Center, Mount Vernon Hospital and Jacobi Medical Center.

EMS workers found the driver outside of the bus,possibly ejected during the crash, with serious head injuries and abrasions.  He was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition.

The tour bus was on its way back from Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut to Chinatown in  Queens,New York.

The accident is under investigation.  New York State Police are looking into whether speed and or fatigue were a factor.

The tour bus is owned by Star Tag bus company which has been given four citations over the last year relating to driver fatigue.
