Tractor-trailer and Car Collide on I-95

Maine (November 28, 2011)   A woman was seriously injured when her car collided with a tractor-trailer on I-95 in New Gloucester.  The crash occurred around 5 p.m. in the southbound lanes at mile marker 70 between Exit 75-Auburn and Exit 63-Gray.

According to trooper Fern Cloutier, Barbara Pierce of Cape Elizabeth was driving a Honda Civic south, when she collided with a tractor-trailer driven by Otis Rogers, causing the Honda to smash into the metal guardrail in the center median. The tractor-trailer also struck the metal guardrail, and then veered off of the right shoulder.  The front of the tractor-trailer came to rest in a ditch, blocking the southbound lanes.

Barbara Pierce, 59, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center.  Otis Rogers was not injured.

The wreck forced authorities to close the southbound lanes between Exits 75 and 63 for 45 minutes.  Traffic was snarled in the area.  State Police were able to re-open all lanes by 8 p.m. after the accident site was cleared.

The Maine State police are still investigating what caused the crash.
