Tractor-trailer Crash Shuts Down I-95 in St. Lucie

Florida (January 4, 2012)  Two tractor-trailers collided on I-95 south causing travel headaches this morning in St. Lucie County.  The accident occurred at 1:27 a.m. between exit 147-State Road 60 and exit 138-Indrio Road forcing authorities to close I-95 south for nearly 7 hours.
Wesley Almoza, driving a tractor-trailer smashed into the rear of another semi driven by Charles Bell.  The force of the impact sent debris across Interstate 95.  A vehicle driven by April Maiorana swerved to avoid the debris and struck one of the tractor-trailers.  The collisions caused diesel fuel to spill onto the roadway.
Almoza was seriously injured and transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute.  The other two drivers did not require hospitalization.
A second crash was reported in the area when the driver of an SUV did not see the stopped traffic.  The SUV overturned and the driver sustained minor injuries.
All lanes of I-95 were re-opened around 8:15 a.m.
The Florida Highway patrol is investigating the accident, charges are pending.
