Connecticut (August 2, 2012) A tractor-trailer caught on fire on I-95 early this morning in Fairfield Connecticut. The incident occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 between exits 23 (Kings Highway) and 24 (Black Rock Turnpike) according to State Police.
The driver of the semi pulled over to the side of the road when he saw sparks from the back of the semi. The fire soon spread to his cargo.
According to Assistant Chief Scott Bisson, the fire could not be easily extinguished and required the assistance of many emergency agencies.
The fire has been ruled accidental.
The semi was owned by Werner Enterprises and was carrying paper towels.
Both the right and center lanes were closed for over three hours causing traffic delays.
