Traffic Nightmare on George Washington Bridge

New York (October 19, 2011)  The Upper Level of the George Washington Bridge was closed after a tractor-trailer struck overhead metal tiles.  The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in New York.  The Port Authority was forced to shut down traffic on the Upper Level as they made emergency repairs.

Traffic traveling north on I-95 from New Jersey into New York was heavily congested.  Commuters were experiencing delays up to an hour and a half.

The Port Authority was able to re-open the Upper level of the George Washington Bridge around 8:00 a.m.
