Trio nabbed on I-95 after heist

New York (August 10, 2011)  According to the New Rochelle Police three bank robbers were apprehended on I-95 south after they crashed their vehicle near Exit 14.

Two men held up  the Webster Bank on River Street around 12:15 p.m. while a getaway driver was in a blue SUV waiting outside.  As the trio got onto I-95 south a New Rochelle Police officer spotted the getaway vehicle and began a pursuit.

The high speed chase lasted 20 minutes down I-95, where one of the alleged robbers tossed a hand gun out of the window (the gun was later recovered).  The pursuit came to an end when the getaway driver crashed into the concrete barrier.  The getaway car came to rest in the grass median on the right side of Interstate 95 south near Exit 14-Hutchinson River Parkway  in the Bronx, where the three were arrested.

Police have not released the names of the suspects.

New York State Troopers and a New York City Police Department Emergency Service Unit assisted in apprehension of the three bank robbers.  Two lanes of I-95 south were closed for almost two hours as the police investigated the scene.
