Truck Driver killed in Crash in Connecticut

Connecticut (May 9, 2012)  A truck driver was killed in a single vehicle accident on I-95 in New Haven County.  The crash occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Interstate 95 North near exit 48 (I-91N Meriden) according to Connecticut State Police.

The driver was heading north towards the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge when for some unknown reason he struck the guardrail causing the semi to go down an embankment.  As a result the semi burst into flames.

Captain Rick Rife of the New Haven Fire Department, said the driver was found dead with severe burns outside of the tractor trailer near Wallace Street.

All lanes were closed from exit 48 to exit 50.  The highway was reopened at about 7:30 a.m.

The victim’s name has not been released and the cause of the accident is under investigation.
