Truck Driver Killed in Rear-end Collision on I-95

Florida (December 14, 2011)  A tractor-trailer driver was killed when he rear-ended another tractor-trailer on I-95 in Melbourne.  The fatal accident happened around 5:00 a.m. near Exit 191-Wickham Road when for some reason a tractor-trailer plowed into the rear of another, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Frederick Green, was driving a tractor-trailer loaded with PVC pipes south on Interstate 95 in the right hand lane.  The second tractor-trailer, driven by Anthony Daniels, 57, hauling general merchandise was traveling in the same direction when he slammed into the rear of Green.  The violent impact caused the fuel tank to explode and extensive damage to the Daniels’ cab, which came to rest across the center and left lane of Interstate 95.  Green’s truck spilled part of its load of PVC pipes on the roadway coming to rest on the right shoulder.

Anthony Daniels was pronounced dead at the scene.  Green sustained minor injuries in the collision.

Authorities closed all lanes of I-95 as crews worked to clean up the wreckage.  A portion of the roadway was damage as a result of the wreck.  Police were able to re-opened the far two right lanes around 11 a.m., the left lane will remain closed until paving repairs are completed.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the fatal accident.
