21 year-old Struck on I-495 south

Massachusetts (December 10, 2011)   A person was struck while helping change a tire on a tractor-trailer on I-495 in Mansfield.  The accident occurred at 1:30 p.m. on I-495 south near Exit 12 when the driver of a tractor-trailer had pulled over into the breakdown lane to inspect his tires according to the Massachusetts State Police.  The driver had called for assistance from a colleague.  Both the driver and the 21 year-old colleague were working on the tire, when a passing vehicle struck the colleague and fled the scene.

The driver pulled the injured colleague to the side of the roadway, providing medical assistance until rescue personnel arrived.  The man sustained serious injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

According to a witness report the striking vehicle may be a blue Ford Escape.  The vehicle will have front end damage.  If you have any information regarding this accident please contact the Massachusetts State Police at 508-543-8550.
