Truck Fire Closes I-95

Connecticut (July 21, 2011)  According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol a large Commercial truck caught fire on Interstate 95 north between Exits 170 and 181 causing a major traffic jam.  It is believed the Truck suffered mechanical problems causing the fire, the fuel tank ruptured resulting in several explosions.  The highway and nearby brush ignited as a result of fire forcing the closure of I-95 north around 3:45 p.m.. It was a challenge for firefighters getting enough water to the scene to battle the blaze in the excessive heat.  By 6:00 p.m. one lane of I-95 was reopened.  The Truck was completely destroyed, no one was injured.
