Trucks Burst Into Flames After Collision

New Jersey (October 7, 2011)  According to the New Jersey State Police a tandem tractor-trailer and oil tanker crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike / I-95 north closing the truck lanes.  The accident occurred around 5:40 a.m. between Exit 8a and Exit 9 when a UPS tractor-trailer jackknifed and collided with the tanker.  The collision caused the vehicles to erupt into flames, closing New Jersey Turnpike / I-95 for several hours.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire which completely engulfed the trailer of the UPS truck and the front cab of the oil tanker.  It took crews several hours to clean up the debris and Officials were inspected the roadway.

The drivers of the trucks sustained minor injuries in the wreck.

Traffic was heavily congested during the morning commute as traffic was diverted to the car lanes.

The New Jersey State Police are investigating the cause of the accident, and what triggered the fire.
