Two Crashes Halt I-95 Traffic in Mamaroneck, New York

New York (February 3, 2011)Two separate crashes held up traffic on southbound lanes of I-95 near Exit 18 for 2 ½ hours in Mamaroneck, NY.

The first accident, around 11:40 a.m. involved a black SUV turned around in the wrong direction. Multiple trucks were stopped, blocking all lanes of traffic. Officers stated two people reporting back and neck pain were later taken to Sound Shore Medical Center.

The second accident occurred only a few minutes later when a tractor-trailer veered off-road into trees causing the trailer to tip. The first accident closed off two lanes while traffic was detoured to Exits 18A and 18B while the second accident brought traffic to a complete stop.

Although no injuries were reported in the second accident traffic backed up for more than 2 ½ hours past the 287/I-95 interchange, spilling onto portions of 287.
