Florida (March 10, 2012) Two people were killed and a man seriously injured in a three-vehicle accident on I-95 in Brevard County. The fatal crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 at mile marker 168, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Joachim Tertulien, 58, was driving a 1983 Datsun pickup truck south on I-95 near Exit 173-Malabar Road when he was rear ended by a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The impact caused the pickup to overturn, coming to rest on the right shoulder. The Jetta, driven by Julian De Los Angeles, 22, came to a stop in the southbound lanes, facing east. Israel Rivera, 51, driving a tractor-trailer, then slammed into Jetta. Both vehicles went off the right side of Interstate 95 into the woods, with the Jetta underneath the tractor-trailer.
Julian De Los Angeles, the 22 year-old driver of the Jetta and his 24 year-old female passenger, Alison Goldberg, were killed. Tertulien was seriously injured and flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center. Ranieri, the driver of the tractor-trailer sustained minor injuries and was transported to Palm Bay hospital.
Two lanes of Interstate 95 south were closed for more than six hours during the rescue and clean up.
The Florida Highway Patrol are still investigating the fatal accident.
