Wife Injured and Husband Killed on I-95

Maine (January 26, 2012)  A Vermont man was killed and his wife injured in a crash on I-95 north in Hampden.  The accident occurred around 4:18 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Exit 180, just north of the rest area according to the Maine State Police.

Douglas Dapice, 70, was driving a 2000 Volvo C70 station wagon north on Interstate 95 when he fell asleep at the wheel.  The Volvo drifted across the rumble strips, waking Dapice.  The driver lost control of the vehicle as overcorrected causing the vehicle to skid into the median and strike a rock before slamming into a tree.  The vehicle came to rest facing south near the bottom of a ditch in the center median.

Douglas Dapice, of South Burlington, Vt., was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center where he died from his injuries. Lynne Dapice, 69, was also transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
