Wife Killed in RV Crash on I-95

Florida (November 26, 2011)  A woman was killed when the RV she was riding in was struck by a Tractor-trailer.  The crash occurred at 5:15 p.m. on Interstate 95 north near Exit 273 in Volusia County.  Thomas Gentry was driving a RV with his wife, Sandra Gentry,  when a tractor-trailer struck the right side of their vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Thomas Gentry was in the right lane when a tractor-trailer attempted to merge into the same lane.  The left side of the tractor-trailer collided with the right side of the RV, causing Gentry to lose control of the vehicle.  The RV went off the right side of the road and struck a merging traffic sign in the grass median.  The vehicle hit an embankment, finally coming to rest after striking a chain-link fence.

Gentry, 66, was sustained minor injuries in the crash.  Sandra Gentry, 66, was killed in the rollover crash.

The tractor-trailer did not stop at the scene of the deadly accident.

Authorities closed the on-ramp to I-95 as they investigated the accident.  The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) stated Mr. Gentry was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but his wife was not.

FHP believes the striking vehicle was a white tractor-trailer and may have a logo “Prime,” and is still investigating the fatal accident.

If you witnessed this accident or have any information regarding the accident, please contact the Florida Highway Patrol.

  1. The RV never rolled over in the accident, he was able to keep it from flipping. I saw everything from the beginning of the accident but I never saw what type of semi-truck it was or the tag #. He stopped but then he was gone.

This was my mother and father. I hope someone can come forward with information in this accident to help find the driver of the truck

    • Gail, we are sorry about this accident. Being in the traffic caused my mind to wonder what idiot wouldn’t stop after causing such an accident. Regardless, searching for tractor trailers that have the word prime in their logo, I saw there is a company named Prime, Inc. that hires drivers for refrigerated things. I’m sure it’s a good start to search thru them, also the weight stations would have information on all trucks passing thru the region. I really hope this helps.

Even though I wasn’t blessed with seeing her much in the last 5 years with her battle with a incureable disease. She was a fighter and will be missed. She stayed in FL with my grandpa due to her condition she couldnt be in cold weather.
