Woman Air Lifted to Hospital After Two Car Crash(Update)

Maine (October 17, 2011) A woman was seriously injured on I-95 north in Houlton on Monday night.  According to the Maine State Police the accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the Canadian border.  Shirley Haines was traveling south on I-95, when she entered the median to go north. Haines entered the northbound lanes and was struck on the passenger side by a northbound SUV.

Shirley Haines sustained serious injuries and was air lifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

The driver of the SUV, Ann VanHemmon was not injured.

Shirley Haines was transferred by plane to Saint John Regional Hospital in New Brunswick on October 20th.  Sadly, Shirely Haines  died on 10-22-2011.  She is the mother of Ray Haines, the lead guitarist of the band Flat Top’s.

    Shirley Haines passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital in New Brunswick Canada at 9pm this evening of her injuries in the above mentioned accident. She was a very close family friend and a caregiver to my mother. She will be sorely missed.
