Woman Airlifted to Hospital after Vehicle Overturns on I-95 (Updated)

Delaware (December 3, 2011)   A Garnet Valley woman was injured in a single vehicle rollover accident in Wilmington.  According to the Delaware State Police, the crash occurred at 7:12 p.m. on Interstate 95 north near Exit 8.

The driver, Melissa P. Megee, 49, was operating a 2006 Honda Pilot on when she traveled off the left side of the roadway into the center grass median.  She then attempted to reenter the northbound lanes, but instead traveled across them, crashing into the guard rail on the right shoulder.  Her vehicle overturned, going down an embankment, trapping her in the wreckage.

It took fire and rescue crews about 20 minutes to free Megee from the vehicle.  Sergeant Paul Shavack states that Megee was injured and airlifted to Christiana Hospital.  She was not wearing a seat belt.

Authorities closed all northbound lanes for 45 minutes to allow the helicopter to land.  One lane of I-95 was shut down as crews worked the accident site.  All lanes were re-opened around 10:00 p.m.

The Delaware State Police have charged Melissa P. Megee with a seat belt violation, driving under the influence of alcohol, and failure to remain within a single lane.
