Woman Killed on I-95 in VA

Virginia (September 30, 2011)  A woman was fatality injured after crashing on I-95 south near Exit 158.  According to the Virginia State Police the accident occurred around 8:45 at mile marker 160.

Jeri N. Roberts, 29, was traveling south on Interstate 95 in a Mazda 3 when her vehicle went off the right shoulder and struck the metal guardrail.  The vehicle then veered back across the three lanes of I-95 South and caromed off of the center concrete wall, sending it back across the southbound lanes of I-95, coming to rest against the metal guardrail on the right shoulder.

State police closed all southbound lanes to allow a medical helicopter to land.  Roberts was critically injured and airlifted to Fairfax Inova Hospital where she later died from her injuries.

All southbound lanes of I-95 were re-opened around 10 a.m., but not before traffic had backed up for over two miles.

The Virginia State Police are investigating the accident.
