Wrong Way Driver Fatality on I-95 in New Hampshire

New Hampshire (August 27, 2012)  A woman was killed in an accident on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth.  The crash occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 near exit 3 (NH 33 – Greenland, Portsmouth) according to State Police.

Rose M. Vitiello was driving her 2010 Chevrolet Aveo traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.  Vitiello travelled the interstate in the wrong direction for approximately six miles hitting two vehicles before crashing head-on with a third vehicle.

The third vehicle, driven by Kathlyn Garvey, left the roadway and rolled over. Garvey, a 22-year-old woman from Northborough, MA, was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with minor injuries where she was later released.

Vitiello’s vehicle came to rest on the shoulder of the interstate.  Rose M. Vitiello, a 56-year-old woman from New Haven, later died at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

The accident is under investigation.
