Wrong-way Motorist killed in Crash on I-95

North Carolina (December 13, 2011)  A man was killed when he crashed into another vehicle when driving the wrong way on I-95 in Johnston County.  According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol the accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 at the underpass for Interstate 40.

Walter Dorsey, 74, was driving a Saturn south on I-95 in the northbound lanes when he struck a BMW.  The driver of the BMW, Deirdre Adams, saw the Saturn and was able to swerve in time to avoid a head-on collision.

Dorsey was pronounced dead at the scene.  Twenty-five year-old Deirdre Adams was injured and transported to Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital.

Authorities were forced to close the northbound lanes of I-95 for a brief period of time as they investigated the scene and attended to the injured.

Police are trying to determine why Dorsey was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-95.
